Mayor Vadym Boichenko has spoken about the future prospects of the tourism development of Mariupol. Ex-head of the Adjara government Levan Varshalomidze will provide consulting support in this direction with his team of specialists. Our city will be equal to the experience of Batumi (Georgia) and La Rochelle (France).

After implementing large-scale projects over the next few years, Mariupol aims to receive five million tourists a year. This will potentially help create 100,000 new tourism jobs in the city.

‘Mariupol has a rich history and interesting culture. We only need to emphasize them. The main symbol of the city is the sea. It will become a center for tourism development. We will open the whole city to it and show it to the whole Ukraine. However, in order to interest tourists, it is first necessary to develop infrastructure’, Vadym Boichenko said.

The totality of natural, historical, cultural and industrial resources determines the identity of Mariupol. The emphasis will be placed on the following areas in the development of tourism: sea and nature, recreation and festivals, culture, architecture and sports.

‘Starting the development of tourism in Batumi in 2004, we set ambitious goals that many were skeptical about. However, now we are all seeing the result. I have been in Mariupol for several days. During this time, I managed to communicate with local residents. You are very open and friendly people who support your hometown. Young people are aimed at new things. The municipality fully supports the development of Mariupol. All this is a powerful basis for positive changes,’ Levan Varshalomidze said.

A large-scale reconstruction of the Left Bank embankment has already begun. It will be a modern family-friendly space with observation decks. Further, it is planned to make the Central Embankment a promenade territory along the coast. The right embankment will also be radically updated. It is important that a water purification project is already being developed. It is being implemented with the support of a French company. In addition to purifying drinking water, the wastewater that comes to the sea will be filtered.

The unique landscape of the National Park "Meotida" and granite rocks near the village of Kremenivka will also find their place on the tourist map of Mariupol.

The plans for the future include the construction of the largest open water and "Maryland" entertainment complex in Ukraine. There will also be a modern amusement park with themed areas for entertainment and recreation.

It is planned to strengthen the festivals already known outside of Mariupol: MRPL City Fest, GogolFest, Mega Yorty, GobyFest, Mariupol Open Book, Mariupol Classic and entertainment programs for the holidays.

The history of Mariupol will be preserved in the historical part of the city. Places-magnets will be the Center for Contemporary Art "Hotel Continental", the multifunctional cultural center "Port Culture" and the cultural and “Vezha” tourist center. In addition, a number of reconstructions of the city's historic buildings are planned.

An integral part of Mariupol is the sphere of production. It is spectacular and attractive to many tourists. An industrial tourism is planned to be offered guests.
