Today Mariupol commemorates Holocaust victims with the whole world. In this regard, mourning alley is held in the city. Mariupol residents laid flowers to the memorial sign of “Prisoners of Mariupol ghetto shot by fascists. 1941”. It is located on the building of the first bulk of Priazov Technical University.
The deputy mayor Serhiy Zakharov, the first rabbi of Mariupol Menachen Mendel Cohen, chairman of national community of Roma in Mariupol Arkadiy Ohly and the representatives of Jewish community were present at the meeting.
“We remember these events with pain and grief. Saving those feelings, we must create future for our children and grandchildren, being on guard of freedom, humanity and tolerance”, Serhiy Zakharov admitted.
It is worth noting, International day of memory of the victims of Holocaust was settled in 2005 by the UN General Assembley. Ukraine was one of the countries-initiators of the adopted resolution. The place of mass execution of Jewish people was located near Mariupol in Ahrobaza township.
