A famous TV presenter Alexander Pedan has arrived in Mariupol. In specialized school No. 66, he presented to teachers the All-Ukrainian project Junior Z. Together with  mayor Vadim Boichenko, he signed a Memorandum on the promotion of sports in Mariupol.

The aim of the project is to popularize and introduce new sports in physical education classes.

‘Today the task at school is not to make children professional athletes. The key is to engage children in sports. We have a development strategy and we have a financial resource. Now it is important to involve teachers and parents in order for our children to be healthy and able to realize themselves. This project helps us to solve this problem, ‘ the Mayor of Mariupol noted.

A popular showman together with coaches and representatives of sports federations held a presentation of six new sports, which can become an alternative to the usual lessons in physical education classes. These are: cheerleading, petanque, floorball, frisbee, rugby and badminton.

‘We want to make physical education interesting for children. They do not need to force sports. Children should play sports with pleasure. We want boys to play together with girls in physical education classes, children do not sit with certificates and play sports,’ Alexander Pedan said.

Physical education teachers told in detail about new sports, and then they conducted practical training, where they were able to work out the necessary skills.

It is worth noting that each school that chooses a particular sport will receive the necessary equipment.

Also within the framework of the project there will be a competition among teachers who have most actively introduced new kinds of sports in the process of physical education of schoolchildren. The winner will receive UAH 30 000.
