Today the holiday of the Ukrainian sea - the Day of the State Navy is celebrated. A solemn rally was held in Mariupol on this occasion. The flag of the navy was raised on the flagpole of Freedom Square. Besides, the flag of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was given to the deputy mayor Arkady Meshkov.
‘You are defending Ukraine's borders, its integrity and sovereignty. Mariupol is grateful for your constant readiness to fight the elements and enemies, protecting us and our world,’ Arkady Meshkov said.
For high professionalism, courage and bravery during the service and national defense, the servicemen were appreciated by the mayor.
‘Ukraine is a maritime power, traditions that began more than 100 years ago must be preserved and maintained. With this flag, sailors go to sea and sail, return home with it. Today Mariupol has become our home,’ Maxim Nosenko, Captain of the Second Rank of the Armed Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces said.
We will remind that the holiday is devoted to a historical event - on April 29, 1918 in Sevastopol the Black Sea Fleet raised the Ukrainian flags. This date became the day of the birth of the Ukrainian Navy. Such events are held in different cities of the country. Besides, flags flies for the whole day on the territory of embassies and consulates of Ukraine.
