Mariupol has been visited today by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Great Britain to Ukraine Judith Gough. During the visit, the Ambassador met with Mayor Vadim Boichenko. The parties discussed the problematic issues that Mariupol is facing today.

At the beginning of the meeting, Vadim Boichenko briefly told about the path that Mariupol had done for  two years. According to him, the city made a significant leap in development  which opened new opportunities for citizens.

‘A few years ago Mariupol was perceived as a gray industrial city in the East of Ukraine. Today it is a center of innovation, a city in which all spheres are developing evenly: education, health, culture and economy. We were able to transform Mariupol’,
the mayor said.

Speaking about the problems that still remain a priority for the city, Vadim Boichenko singled out the broken logistics. He stressed that despite the passed steps and dozens of implemented projects, Mariupol is still in a logistical impasse. This situation significantly affects the tourist attractiveness of the city and creates serious inconveniences for  the citizens.

‘It takes 18 hours to get from Mariupol to Kiev. Moreover, the ticket is almost impossible to buy. And this is our only railway connection. The situation is not better with a track. The road section of Zaporozhye - Mariupol is in a poor condition. The airport hasn’t been working since 2014. There are still problems with the sea way. In this matter, we count on the assistance of the international community’,
Vadim Boichenko reported.

In her turn, Judith Gough said that she will try to provide the necessary support for finding solutions to the problems that Mariupol is facing today. In her opinion, every effort should be made to ensure that the city continues the path of sustainable development.

At the end of the meeting, the parties exchanged souvenirs.
