Representatives of Mariupol city territorial community and the city center of social services have passed a study tour in Latvia. The purpose of the visit is to study the best practices of Latvian women in politics and public administration at different levels. Most of the tour was devoted to combating domestic and gender-based violence, support for victims.
The participants met with the Minister of Internal Affairs of Latvia Maria Golubeva. Diana Jakaite, Director of the Social Policy Planning and Development Department of the Latvian Ministry of Welfare, and Anda Čakša, Member of the Seimas and Chair of the Parliamentary Gender Equality Group, spoke about the implementation of gender equality policy and its legal support.
The program also included meetings with representatives of Latvian non-governmental organizations, social services, police officers and hotline organizers. The participants visited the regional authorities in Riga, Tukums and Cesis.
The study tour is a part of the Democratic Governance in Eastern Ukraine program, which is supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The tour was prepared due to the International Cooperation Agency of the Association of Dutch Municipalities VNG International.
