Today Mayor Vadym Boichenko has met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Ukraine, David La Cecilia in Kyiv. The parties discussed possible cooperation between Mariupol and Italy, in particular, the development of municipal transport and the management of solid domestic waste (MSW).
The Mayor said that Mariupol is following the path of development of municipal transport. In this direction, the city successfully cooperates with the International Finance Corporation, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. As a result, Mariupol was strengthened by 64 new buses. In addition, this year 72 modern trolley buses will additionally enter the line.
‘Mariupol will continue to improve the internal logistics of the city. Our task is to make municipal transport not only as accessible as possible for residents, but also bring it to the European level. A modern transport hub should appear in Mariupol. To do this, we study international practice. In this aspect, the experience of Italy is interesting. I am sure it will help us enter a new stage of development,’ Vadym Boichenko said.
In particular, the Mayor was interested in issues of increasing tram speed, introducing an e-ticket, organizing and building a public transport route network. Also during the meeting, issues of solid waste disposal were discussed. Vadym Boichenko is confident that the examination of Italy will help Mariupol continue to implement large-scale projects.
‘Mariupol has already made a good showing as a city which successfully cooperates with international partners. European expertise and investments provide an opportunity to improve infrastructure. Among them are cooperation with the French government on a water project, as well as the reconstruction of outdoor lighting together with the European Investment Bank,’ Vadym Boichenko said.
At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed hope for fruitful cooperation.
