A clear algorithm has been developed for admitting patients with coronavirus infection in the event of a second wave of COVID-19 spread in Mariupol. Mayor Vadym Boichenko told about the readiness of hospital bases in hospitals.

In total, 411 beds have been prepared in the city's hospitals to receive patients with COVID-19. Of these, 201 are for patients with a confirmed diagnosis and 210 for those with suspected coronavirus. They are located on the basis of city hospitals No. 4, No. 9 and an emergency hospital.

“Mariupol has begun to prepare in advance to create conditions to fight a possible second wave of coronavirus infection. In our work, we adopt world experience and align ourselves with European practices. Today, without waiting for decisions at the country level, we act according to the situation at the local level. Increased the number of beds for COVID-19 patients. We install oxygen masks and provide maximum protection for doctors ",

- Vadym Boichenko said.

To date, the fight against the spread of coronavirus infection in Mariupol is being carried out in three stages.

The first is the creation of a special provisional department. On the spot, specialists will be able to quickly diagnose, dividing patients into those with A.R.V.I., pneumonia or COVID-19. It is important that first of all, the PCR tests of Mariupol residents will be checked, after that - the samples sent from all over Donetsk region. Besides, an agreement has been concluded with a private clinic. The work has been established with the regional laboratory center. This will speed up the process of obtaining test results. Moreover, an additional PCR laboratory will be installed in the city hospital №4. It will be able to conduct up to three tests per day, 96 samples at a time.

The second stage is the connection of oxygen masks in the wards. According to statistics, on average a patient without an oxygen mask recovers in 15 days, with an oxygen mask - 10. With the support of Metinvest Group, 103 beds are already equipped with centralized oxygen supply. Up to 300 cylinders are consumed per day.

“Now we are installing additional oxygen equipment in hospitals No. 1, No. 4 and No. 9”, Deputy Mayor Mykhaylo Kohut said.

The third stage is the outpatient treatment of asymptomatic patients with COVID-19. For this, special teams are working on the basis of primary centers. They will monitor patients at home. You can also contact the Contact and Communication Center "15-55" for advice.

At the expense of the city budget, personal protective equipment was purchased for doctors. Besides, work is underway to purchase the necessary medicines.

“As part of the first wave, about UAH 68 million has already been allocated from the city budget to combat COVID-19. The work covers the areas of medicine, education and social welfare. Also financial assistance was provided by Metinvest Group. Within the framework of the second wave, financing from the city budget in the amount of more than UAH 30 million is planned. This decision will be made at the next session of the City Council’, Deputy Mayor Serhiy Orlov said.

Patients with pneumonia, but a negative test for COVID-19, will be admitted to the city hospital No. 1 and the regional intensive care hospital. For these purposes, 290 beds have been prepared.
