During the meeting, the executive committee has decided to change the cost of travel in public and private public transport. From March 1, the cost of travel in electric vehicles will be 7 UAH, in vehicles - 8 UAH. And from August 1, the tariff will increase by one more hryvnia. This is due to the need to improve the quality of transport services and wage growth, as well as the cost of electricity, fuel and materials.

‘We have increased the share of public transport in the total traffic volume to 55%. 33% of transport correspond to this indicator. Funding for the renewal of transport for the three years amounted to UAH 237 million. In the streets of the city more than 100 units of the updated transport appeared. An agreement was signed with the International Finance Corporation to allocate a loan of EUR 12.5 million for the purchase of 64 buses, ‘ said Vasily Klat, the director of the transport and communications department, adding that another 72 trolley buses would be purchased with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

According to him, MTTA increases operating costs. Since 2017, the city electric transport has abolished the action of the preferential tariff for electricity. In 2019, the cost of electricity will be more than 3 UAH per 1 kW, which is 11% more than now. Another almost 17% have increased in prices for parts and consumables.

Besides, MTTA is experiencing an acute shortage of personnel. Since last August, drivers have been able to raise wages by 42%. Today, the driver of public transport earns more than UAH 10 000.

At the same time, Vasyl Klat reminded that a travel card is valid in Mariupol. From March, its cost will be 330 UAH, and from August 400 UAH. In comparison, the cost of travel in Kiev is 750 UAH, and in Vinnitsa - 500 UAH. Due to the ticket, the cost of one trip is only 5.5 UAH.

‘We are on the verge of fundamental changes in the transport infrastructure of the city. Mariupol will become the flagship of transport development. No city in Ukraine does it. For three years, we have created a bus depot and purchased new transport. In MTTA today there are 1,400 highly skilled jobs. To move on, we need joint responsibility for the development of transport infrastructure. The principle should work - 50 to 50. The city will provide half of the investment in the form of subsidies to the enterprise. The remaining half is revenue from ticket sales. Then we can build a European transport model,’
Mayor Vadim Boichenko noted.
