After the session of the Mariupol City Council, Mayor Vadym Boichenko held a traditional press conference, where he answered journalists' questions. He spoke about the Strategy of the development of Mariupol-2021, city water supply, garbage recycling, pipe replacement, debt restructuring of Mariupol heat supplying company and investments.

According to the mayor, Mariupol approached the issue of recycling waste in a timely manner and works side-by-side with international partners. "Today we are developing a municipal garbage collection card. At the first stage - we prepare project documentation for the construction of the sorting line. It will allow us to sort the garbage that can be used for recycling. The next stage is to prepare for the complete recycling of all waste from the city", - stated Vadym Boichenko.

The city has to deal with the “garbage morphology”. Without this it's hard to say how waste will be completely recycled. The mayor assured that Mariupol is working in this direction.

If we start the sort in 2018-2019, it will allow us to use of the third stage of the polygon for at least five years. That will later allow us to systematically approach the construction of a waste incinerator
summed up Vadym Boichenko

Responding to journalists' questions, the mayor spoke about the current problem of the city - the old water supply system, which makes itself known for accidents with pipe-breaks. One of them occurred recently, when part of the Primorsky and Central districts remained without water.

City authorities are working in this direction. So, Mariupol has submitted a project to the European Investment Bank, which needs more than 20 million euros to be realized. "It will be replaced more than 100 km of main pipes, that will significantly reduce the number of pipe-breaks, and most importantly - will reduce our costs," - said Vadym Boichenko.

If we implement this project, then the percentage of losses will be reduced – approx. at the level of 15-20%. To equalize 1% of water losses, the city costs 4 million UAH.

The mayor also reminded that this year "Gorvodokanal" received a large amount of investments - from the German government and UNICEF. Thanks to the support of international partners, it has already been possible to reduce the number of accidents in water supply system per day - from 50 to 15.
