Today the memory of victims during shelling of Vostochnyi microdistrict on January 24, 2015 is honored in Mariupol. The requiem was held near memorial sign to “Dead during undeclared war”. From early morning, Mariupol residents bring flowers and lamps to its foot. At 9:15 am - the time when the shelling took place, electric sirens sounded in memory of the victims.

City mayor Vadym Boichenko stressed that this tragedy influenced the hearts of Mariupol residents.

“31 deaths, 117 of injured people and destroyed infrastructure are consequences of those awful 30 seconds. Life of the cities is divided into before and after. This pain can not be beyond the telling of it. But this day united every Mariupol resident forever. We have realized that the most valuable and fragile that we have is our lives. It is important not to forget this tragedy. Each of us should do everything not to let it happen again”, Vadym Boichenko admitted.

The chairman of Donetsk regional civilian-military administration Pavlo Kyrylenko stressed that the pain of losses is still strong.

“We must understand that dead live in our hearts till the memory about them lives”, Pavlo Kyrylenko summarized.
