‘GogolFest’ is being continued and the film ‘Anya and Seryozha’ has been shown today in the art platform ‘Tyu’ which was filmed in Mariupol. This is a documentary story filmed by Austrian director Yvette Leker and a film crew from Berlin.

Previously, the film ‘Anja und Serjoscha’ had been presented in the Berlin cinema “Colloseum”. A motion picture film tells about teenagers living in Mariupol who behave like queer characters, arrange street actions and dream of leaving. They are interested in foreign music, performance and fashion. But because of the conflict in the region, their present seems fragile and the future is uncertain. All this aggravates adolescent maximalism, that is the reason why young people begin to doubt themselves and their capabilities. But they have the energy of youth. The director finishes his work with understatement, focusing on the fact that before giving up on something, you should still make maximum efforts to achieve the goal.

‘With this work, I wanted to convey to young people that in all countries adolescents are equal. They have similar interests, ideals. And even the circumstances beyond their control do not deprive them of their dreams,’ the director Yvette Leker says.

Ukrainian journalist Inga Pilipchuk prompted the director to select the location for filming Mariupol, as she visited the city on working visits. The shooting took place in April-May 2018 in Mariupol, including at the Faculty of Greek Philology and Translation of Mariupol State University.

Sergey Lisyura, Anna Shishman and Dmitry Kolda are Mariupol residents who were interested in the film crew with their action in support of gender equality. They conducted it in 2017. Partially this episode is repeated in the film, when a boy and a girl exchange clothes while standing on Theater Square.
