Today in Mariupol there has been an open discussion of the project on the reconstruction of Freedom Square. The theme is the future landscaping of the public garden. It is planned to plant more than eight thousand plantations, landscaping lawns and make an automatic irrigation system. The resting place will get a modern and European look.

The purpose of the meeting is to get feedback from the residents before the start of the works, answer their questions, find out the wishes and make constructive suggestions to the project.

It should be noted that the reconstruction of Freedom Square was discussed twice and the project took into account the wishes of the public.

‘It is planned to plant more than 1,500 trees, a large number of shrubs and flowers. Green areas will be equipped with an automatic irrigation system. The designers proposed a number of interesting trees that were planted in Mariupol last year and received good feedback from residents. Among them there are magnolia and tulip tree,’ Vadim Isakov, head of the  development of housing and utilities infrastructure department said.

He stressed that the trees that are currently growing will be maximally preserved in the park. Planted seedlings will be from 2.2 meters in height.

During the discussion, the specialist who was developing the landscaping project, Galina Ivanova, said that they propose to plant a spherical catalpa along Mira Avenue. The green zone will also be decorated: black pine, magnolia, tulip tree and sakura Ra. There will also be a location with red maples.

It is planned to approach landscaping in the spring of 2020, before that preparatory work will be carried out.

You can send your suggestions for landscaping the square until July 19 to the post office of Mariupol City Council - [email protected]
