First Secretary of the French Embassy in Ukraine Loe Lagrange has paid a working visit to Mariupol. The Mayor met with the delegation, they discussed joint plans for the development of Mariupol, the city's achievements over the past five years and further development vectors.

Improving water quality is among the main challenges for Mariupol. Now a long-term and unique project for Ukraine with the support of the French government is being implemented, which will completely modernize the water supply of the half-million city. After its implementation, drinking water of European quality will be in the taps of Mariupol residents. The project includes the construction of a water treatment plant. The experience of the Austrian city of Linz and the French Dunkirk was taken as a basis.

The city is also working on solving the housing issue. Due to the tense situation in the region, the number of residents in Mariupol has grown by another 100 thousands IDPs. “New Mariupol residents” have found their second home in our city and together with us help to develop it. There are qualified teachers, doctors, police officers, managers, entrepreneurs and many others. Mariupol is working to provide residents with affordable housing. A program has been developed based on the experience of Georgia and the Balkans, flats are purchased on the secondary market, houses are being reconstructed for social housing and now the first steel house in Ukraine is being built.

Vadym Boichenko said that the development of infrastructure and transport is continued. The city is becoming even more comfortable, accessible and modern. The goal is to make Mariupol attractive for tourists. A large-scale reconstruction of the Left Bank sea front has already begun. French expertise helps a lot.

‘Mariupol is a vivid example of positive changes. We create conditions for the development and comfort of people. We direct the city’s budget to implement important infrastructure projects that improve the quality of life of Mariupol families. Today our city is on the wave of advanced ideas and projects. We create new opportunities and attract the attention of the whole Ukraine to itself,’ Vadym Boichenko said.

In turn, Ms. Loe Lagrange noted that France will continue to cooperate with Mariupol and support its development projects in the future.
