Vadym Boichenko presented the best boxer with the Mariupol Mayor’s Cup

The results of the Cup of Ukraine - the 49th Makar Mazay Memorial - were summed up today on the City Day. Vadym Boichenko, the Mayor of Mariupol, founded the Mayor’s Cup for the first time this year. He presented it the best boxer of the tournament, which was distinguished by high technical and tactical skills.

It was a Mariupol athlete Rostyslav Bilostotskyi. He took first place in the weight category of 52 kg. It is worth to note that two more our countrymen stood out. Andriy Prykhodko was rewarded with silver of the memorial, and Dmytro Rybalko was awarded with bronze.

We should recall you that more than 100 athletes competed in different weight categories over the Ukrainian Cup in Mariupol for five days. They came to the Mariupol ring from Donetsk, Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Zhytomyr, Poltava, Kherson, Kyiv, Zaporizhia, Luhansk, Vinnitsa, Mykolayiv, Sumy, Lviv, Cherkasy, Khmelnytsky, Rivne, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil and Zakarpattia regions.

During the ceremony, the Boxing Federation thanked Vadym Boichenko, the Mayor and the Honorable President of the Boxing Federation of Mariupol, Oleksandr Kochurin, the Deputy Mayor, for their significant contribution to the organization of this tournament.

According to the Mayor, Mariupol is called the breeding ground of Ukrainian boxers for a reason. Vitaliy Klychko, the current Mayor of the capital, was awarded the title of Master of Sports of international importance at such tournament in 1993.

We revived great boxing in Mariupol after two-year break. We are doing our best to bring back the former sporting glory to our city today. Mariupol has always been strong in spirit! I believe that this ring educates more than one generation of prominent boxers not only for Mariupol, but also for the Donetsk Region and for the whole Ukraine

Victor Remsky, the Deputy Head of the Donetsk Regional State Administration, joined the greetings of the Mayor. He thanked the Mariupol authorities for the revival of the tournament, the name of which became known all over the country.

“Boxing is a sport for real men who have a character, physical qualities and are not afraid of anything. Sportsmen came and saw that Mariupol is a wonderful city with a modern infrastructure that holds wonderful holidays and which is absolutely peaceful”, - Victor Remsky emphasized.

The best athletes were awarded with the cups by honored guests at the end of the tournament. The Mayor’s Cup was presented to Rostyslav Bilostotskyi. Viktor Petrov (Khmelnytsky Region) became the best boxer of the competition according to the decision of the jury, and Valeriy Kharlamov (Odesa Region) was marked for his will to win. The Donetsk Region team is recognized the best according to the results of the competition.
