Today Mayor Vadym Boichenko has made a check out to the places that suffered the most from heavy precipitation. There have been no such showers in the city for 30 years. The Mayor met with residents and talked to the heads of utilities and specialized departments.
During yesterday's day, the monthly precipitation rate fell. The Mayor was informed about the operational actions and the current situation. Vadym Boichenko instructed to recreate the hydraulic engineering service.
‘The city should have such a service. Its task is to systematically monitor all tubing and storm sewers. We need specialists and technicians to be ready for such disasters,’ the Mayor emphasized.
During the inspection, we analyzed the situation on Lunin Avenue. Zintseva balka was clogged with debris. As a result, the water flooded residential buildings and the square. PU “Mariupolavtodor” and the emergency diving service promptly started cleaning the stormwater systems. State Emergency Service of Ukraine deployed a pumping station.
The transformer station was also flooded. Olexii Degtyarev, General Director of DTEK Donetsk Electric Grids, said that fifty TPs were de-energized from 5:55 pm. The water was pumped out all night.
Residents of the private sector also suffered from the disaster. Thus, a resident of the house on Lvivska Street, 6 Lyudmila Moskovets told the Mayor that the water reached 1.5 meters. Water was pumped out from the yard for 12 hours.
‘We have flooded the first floor of a two-story building. It never happened due to the rescuers and the head of the district for their prompt assistance,’ the woman said.
In a multi-storey building at 35, Latysheva, the roof was damaged. Serhii Marchuk, Director of the Department for the Development of Housing and Communal Infrastructure, emphasized that its overhaul will begin on July 1. A total of 217 houses were damaged.
The water rose to four meters in an hour and a half along Hromov Street in the “Airplane” area. According to Deputy Mayor Serhii Zakharov, it was decided to increase the number of rainwater collectors at this location.
‘In the next three weeks, utilities and specialized departments must provide engineering solutions for key problem locations. It is necessary to strengthen the soil and look after the improvement of the territory. Responsibility of residents is also important here. Garbage must not be left in the wrong places. It clogs the stormwater inlets. In addition, it is important to modernize the stormwater intake systems,’ Vadym Boichenko stressed.
