According to the tradition, after the regular session of Mariupol City Council, the city mayor Vadim Boichenko answered the journalists' questions. They were worried about the future of the yacht club, road repairs, benefits monetization and education and health reforms.
The mayor said that the city with the profile ministry and federation have chosen the development of water sport based in ‘Azovstal’ yacht club. By prior arrangement, it is planned to form a school of Olympic reserve there.
The Center of Mine Dragging of Diving and Rescue Organization is based in the former MMKI water sport complex. It will increase mine safety in the water area of the Azov Sea. The emergency response team of the Special Purpose Department of the State Emergency Management Service in the Donetsk region had applied to the city council with a request to lease non-residential premises in the yacht club. Nevertheless, yachtsmen, who are now stationed at this facility, are afraid that this will have a bad effect on the development of sailing.
‘We have found a compromise. This base will be shared with yachtsmen. A corresponding memorandum will be signed within a month’, Vadim Boichenko emphasized.
But the issue of benefits monetization is still open. Mariupol has brought up this issue since 2016. But taking into consideration that fact that the state did not compensate travel privilege, Tram and Trolleybus Management (TTM) increased its operating costs. 200 thousand people have the privilege in the city, their fare is more than UAH 150 million from the local budget.
According to Vadim Boichenko, citizens of Mariupol have moved to the public transport. Today it carries 70% of the privileged category of citizens and 30% of the paid passengers. Thus, they have increased the compensation of TTM for travel privilege. But the recent draft resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine with a recommendation to the cities on benefits monetization does not solve their problem. For example, the cost of Mariupol will increase from UAH 150 to 280 million.
Thus, cities will be able to deal with the development of infrastructure, the implementation of projects and the road repairs. Unfortunately, the condition of roads is deteriorated after this winter. ‘Avtodor’ will be able to proceed to the current and patching repairs after improvement of weather conditions. District administrations of the city must submit a list of the roads that need repairs to the public utilities.
Besides, the mayor told about the necessity to carry out education and health reforms. This will improve the quality of provided services, form a new face of the municipality and the most important thing is to be able to educate the future of Mariupol. And it belongs to the youth. The education reform is aimed to create good conditions for the development of an individual and the fulfillment of his potential.
