A rally dedicated to the Day of the Liberation of Mariupol from Nazi invaders has taken place in the Prymorsky District. Mayor Vadym Boichenko met with the veterans and appreciated them for the confident present and future of Mariupol.
“Veterans gave us peace and the opportunity to live in a free way. The Second World War left a tragic mark on history and the post-war years became an example of human willpower. Those who passed the battle found the strength to rebuild Mariupol, revive its economy and confidently march into the future. Inspired by this feat, today we continue to develop our hometown for our children”,
Vadym Boichenko stressed.
The memory of the fallen heroes was honored with a minute of silence. After that, the audience laid flowers at the foot of the monument. During the event, the folk vocal band "Melodia" performed songs of the war years and "Teatromania" public theater showed a thematic sketch. In addition, stands with an exhibition dedicated to the anniversary of the liberation of Mariupol were installed at the location.
“The photos cover such historical events as the capture, occupation of the city and the battles for Mariupol. Most of the original photographs are provided from personal archives. On some of them you can recognize places and buildings that have survived to this day, for example, the intersection of Levchenko Street and Nikopolsky Avenue”, the head of Department of Local History Museum Nadezhda Gashenenko said.
