Mayor Vadym Boichenko continues to hold meetings with specialized professionals in the field of culture, history and education. The goal is to listen to all parties regarding the creation of new opportunities for youth, the development of infrastructure and the preservation of the historical heritage of Mariupol. This time the meeting was held with the presidents of the city universities.
Vadym Boichenko noted that the expertise of the heads of universities and institutes is important for understanding the development of education in the future. He also added that Mariupol is clearly moving in this direction. There are already six higher educational institutions operating in the city. There are plans for their development in the future. For example, creating a campus that will include a medical school, college and research center.
‘It is important to know your opinion. What do you think about the prospects for the development of education in Mariupol. The main thing is how we will deal with the outflow of young people from our city. Now there are 10 thousand students in the city, and in Lviv, for example, 100 thousand. The city needs young people - ambitious, energetic and purposeful,’ the Mayor said.
The president of Metinvest Polytechnic University Olexander Povazhny stressed that the emergence of a new university in Mariupol is cooperation in various fields: ‘Joint research, filing applications for participation in international grants and projects, use of sports infrastructure. There is a long way ahead. It is not about competition, but about constructive cooperation.’
The representatives of internally displaced universities also expressed their point of view. The head of Donetsk State University of Management Svitlana Marova stressed that along with the development of higher education, the city will develop both economically and socially.
‘A new university is always a new opportunity. And it would be surprising if one of us did not agree with the appearance of Metinvest Polytechnic. A new university provides new opportunities for both applicants and the city. This is the economy, this is the youth who stay in Mariupol, who come to the city for the benefit of such a university,’ Svitlana Marova said.
The president of Mariupol State University Mykola Trofimenko added that Metinvest Polytechnic will become a significant investment in the development of education in Mariupol and Ukraine.
‘The creation of Metinvest Polytechnic is a very serious investment. A private investment with a price tag of hundreds of millions of hryvnias. This is an advantage for the community. As for higher education, this is the first private university in Ukraine that cooperates with leading industrial and IT companies,’ Mykola Trofymenko says.
The Mayor summed up that the task of the municipality is to create opportunities for young people: ‘It is necessary that young people stay in their native Mariupol and connect their future with the city by the sea. I appreciate you for the indifferent position on this issue to the heads of higher educational institutions and their contribution to the development of education in Mariupol.’
