Today the City Mayor Vadym Boichenko has been given the sign of honor “For merit to the city” to the acting rector of Mariupol State University Konstantin Balabanov. This year the term of appointment is finishing this year. A new rector of Mariupol State University will be appointed in November this year.
“Now we are developing the Strategy of development of Mariupol up to 2030. Its basis is going to be education that will be the start of transformations. We need to study how to watch in the future. We need to find the talents of the youth and give opportunities to find self-fulfilment. Mariupol State University is one of the pillars of science in our city”, Vadym Boichenko adimitted.
For the last few years the situation with the migration of the youth has stabilized in Mariupol. The percentage of the students who study in other cities and foreign higher educational establishments among Mariupol residents decreased from 70 to 30 per cent. Mariupol State University has played an important role in it. Due to the cooperation with the municipality and the initiative of Konstantin Balabanov, new specialities were opened at the university.
Konstantin Balabanov has been working at the University for 28 years. He has stood at the origins of its creation. More than 25 thousand students not only from Mariupol but from many countries of the world became the graduates of Mariupol State University. Konstantin Balabanov is a PhD in Political Science, professor and Honorary Consul of Cyprus Republic in Mariupol. He has been admitted for strong contribution in the strengthening of cooperation between Greece and Ukraine. The sign of honor has been awarded for huge personal contribution in the development of education in the humanities, active assistance in the strengthening of the international relations of the city of Mariupol.
“Hard work and faithfulness is always in the priority of the work of university. We send too much power for it but we are proud of the result. Mariupol State University became one of the leading centers of cooperation of Ukraine with foreign countries in the field of education, science and culture. Due to persistency, hard work and professionalism, Mariupol can reach a visible effect. The development of the city is noticed by our foreign visitors. There are more higher educational establishments in the city and the youth has more choice and reasons to continue education in their own city”, Konstantin Balabanov said.
Besides, during the working meeting, the employees of the Mariupol State University were awarded with gratitude from Mariupol City Council "For high professionalism".
