The heads of public utilities have reported on the results of the fight against bad weather today. Mayor Vadym Boichenko instructed to develop clear plan to counteract sudden changes in weather conditions, paying special attention to the storm sewer system.
‘1.5 months mean annual precipitation fell out for three day. Despite this abnormal situation, we must be prepared. Each enterprise must develop an action plan in advance and clear deadlines for their implementation. Then we will be able to avoid such problems in the future,’ the Mayor said.
Vadym Boichenko noted the insufficiently effective work of the department for managing energy enterprises. According to him, only two DTEK brigades went out on the first day of bad weather, while there could have been nine. The Mayor instructed the director of the department, Konstantin Pismariov, to develop an operational response plan in the event of a weather disaster within a week and to establish communication in this matter with DTEK. Residents of Mariupol should not be without electricity for a long time.
Serhii Marchuk, Director of the Department for the Development of Housing and Communal Infrastructure, said that roofs were damaged in 150 houses. He stressed that by September, at the expense of the emergency fund, restoration work will be carried out in the houses of condominiums. At the same time, in order to prevent such incidents in the future, it was decided to conduct scheduled inspections of roofs, cleaning of storm water systems, and performing roof repair work with the possibility of paying in installments. The critical ones will be included in the overhaul.
The issue of flooding the barbecue area in Hurov park was also discussed. The head of the Division of Capital Construction Halyna Sheichenko noted that there was a strong rise in groundwater and the drainage system could not cope with the volume of water. One more drainage pipe will be laid by August.
We also discussed the issue of rainwater collectors. They are clogged with household waste left by residents. This was stated by deputy mayor Serhii Zakharov. Vadym Boichenko instructed to communicate with residents, clean up the territory following the water and strengthen the cleaning of storm water systems in problem areas.
‘The existing rainwater collectors are outdated and do not meet the current requirements. The system needs to be expanded and modernized. However, the work on cleaning them yielded results. Work in this direction must be continued,’ Vadym Boichenko said.
