Vadym Boichenko: Mariupol has a positive dynamics of the struggle with the pandemic

The heads of the hospitals and operating teams have told city mayor Vadym Boichenko about the readiness of Mariupol to meet the holidays in the conditions of the pandemic, organization of the educational process at schools and kindergartnes. The work is regulated with maximum adhesion of all quarantine restrictions.

“Mariupol has reached a positive stable resistance in the struggle with the pandemic. This is a result of work of doctors, municipality and responsible attitude of the residents, their level of discipline of wearing masks, distancing and handwash. All this influenced the positive dynamics. Mariupol has built the work of the system of the city healthcare system successfully and resist the challenges of COVID-19. We have united to protect health and lives. The main thing was that the budget of Mariupol for 2012 was approved. It is a vital document that provides the work of medicine and out-patient brigades”, Vadym Boichenko emphasized.

About 83% with COVID-19 recovered in Mariupol during the pandemic. 919 new cases of illness and 1322 Mariupol residents recovered last week. The quantity of recovered is more than 45% of ill people.

The director of Healthcare department Andriy Rempil told that there is a positive dynamics of recovery in Mariupol. There are 603 beds for new patients in the city, 512 among them are supplied with the oxygen that is more than 80%. 274 beds are busy today that is 45%. 23 mobile medical teams work to service outpatients, they have 500 house calls in average every day. The condition of patients is monitored on the phone every day and in case of necessity mobile medical teams come home to take the decision. The laboratory of Mariupol has all the necessary analysis, it is supplied with chemical agents and expendable supplies for the first quarter.

“Due to the approved budget 2021, Mariupol will continue to fight with the pandemic. UAH 70 mln are given to the field of health care to resist COVID-19. UAH 45 mln is operational costs. These are additional charges to the workers of mobile medical teams and laboratory centers, purchase of expendable supplies for the laboratory, means of individual protective gears for hospitals, catering service for the patients with COVID-19 and supply with medicines. UAH 25 mln  is the budget of development. This is the repairs and equipment of COVID departments of the city hospital №9, the purchase of modern x-ray devices for every primary health care center to create the conditions to have fluorography according to the place of residence,” Andriy Rempil said.

The directors of the hospitals, where there are hospital bases to treat the patients with COVID-19, agree with him. For example, the city hospital №9 purchased oxygen concentrators when there was no state program. The work of the laboratory is organised in the city hospital №4. All the doctors are supplied with individual protective gears, catering service for the patients is organized and the oxygen points are equipped.

“The decisions of the city council which were accepted in time led to the stable situation in Mariupol and there is a positive dynamic in comparison with all the Ukraine. We see that the quantity of recovered is more than ill people. The fillability of in-patient facility is 40%. We have enough resources to help patients. The field of healthcare  of Mariupol is completely ready to resist COVID-19,” the director of city hospital №1 Larisa Mamayeva stressed.

In spite of the fact of positive dynamics, Mariupol is getting ready to the third possible wave of pandemic. Oxygen fund is increased, the repair works are held, the equipment is purchased, additional oxygen points are added and oxygen concentrators are purchased. Thus, there will be 945 beds supplied with oxygen by the beginning of the possible third wave in Mariupol.

As the first deputy mayor Mikhail Kohut said, the enterprises of Metinvest group help Mariupol with the supplies of oxygen into hospitals for free. Today the third program of mounting with installation of modern system that automatize the process of oxygen supply is deveoped.

According to the deputy mayor Serhiy Orlov, the approved budget for 2021 will help to fight effectively with the pandemic: “Due to the pandemic and program of social and economic development, Mariupol can initiate purchases, medicines, individual protective gear and extra charges of medical personnel who takes part in struggle with COVID-19.”

In the education field, it was decided that schoolboys have winter holidays up January, 10 to prevent the communication of the disease incidence among children and co-workers. Taking into the account that there is a lockdown from 8th to 25th of January, their education is shifted to remote working. To do this, they will also conduct online lessons on one of the local TV channels, as well as use recorded lessons from the Ministry of Education and Science. Preschool institutions have been working according to the new schedule since January 4 for 4 days. The fifth day is dedicated to the dismantling of the kindergarten. This day is chosen by the heads of institutions together with the parents. Vadym Boichenko set a task for the Department of Education of the City Council to develop a schedule of work of duty groups in neighboring kindergartens.

It is worth noting, that this year Mariupol refused from mass events for winter holidays. Four holidays locations are decorated in the city and they are supplied with disinfectors. Celebrating will be held online and concerts will be broadcasted from the screens. Mariupol is decorated in a joyful way for the residents to go for a walk and enjoy New Year Mariupol, following quarantine restrictions. According to the doctors, the refuse from festive program will help to break the chain of coronavirus infection and save the health of the residents.
