During the Regional Development Council, held in Mariupol under the chairmanship of the President of Ukraine, the City Mayor Vadim Boichenko has given  a speech. He told about new opportunities of Mariupol, which the decentralization reform had opened for the city.

The Mayor noted that Mariupol was able to survive in 2014. The residents united and became stronger. The city took into its family 100 000 resettlers. Together with them, we developed the Development Strategy of Mariupol.

‘Decentralization has become the key for the development of Mariupol and Ukraine. Since 2014, the budget of Mariupol has increased for 3 times. The development budget increased by a factor of 37. Today, more than UAH 1 billion from the budget is directed to the development of Mariupol. The development of the city budget is 92%’,
the Mayor noted.

He also said that the decentralization reform helped to bring international cooperation of cities to a new level. As a result, we managed to attract investments for the implementation of large infrastructure and important social projects.

‘The decentralization provides new opportunities for each of us. This is an opportunity to develop the country through the lens of our cities. And Mariupol today is a city with a great potential, which has taken the path of steady development. Strong, smart and inspirational. It is intended to become a symbol of the restored Ukrainian Donbass’,
Vadim Boichenko noted.

At the end, the Mayor appreciated President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko for supporting the city and its inhabitants.
