A requiem rally has been held in Mariupol on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance of Holodomor Victims. The deputy mayors took part in it. As a sign of grief and respect, the participants lit the lamps and laid flowers at the memorial sign “Victims of the Holodomor and Political Repressions”.

“The Holodomor is more of a tragic page in the history of Ukraine, it is human lives that cannot be returned. This tragedy has not spared Mariupol. Tens of thousands of our inhabitants died because they had nothing to eat. Now, as we move towards the future, we must remember and respect our history. The events of those years should not be repeated again, ” Mykhaylo Kohut, First Deputy Mayor said.

The memory of the victims of the Holodomors in Ukraine is honored every year on the fourth Saturday of November. State flags will be lowered on all administrative buildings of Mariupol tomorrow. Mariupol residents can join the nationwide minute of silence, at 16:00 light a candle in the window of their house as a symbol of memory.
