The Ministry for Temporary Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced People, under the chairmanship of Deputy Minister Yuriy Grymchak, has held a meeting on the search for reserve water supply routes for settlements located in the South of the Donetsk region. Among them there were  questions regarding Mariupol and its interests were represented by the first deputy of the city mayor Mikhail Kogut and the head of ‘Gorvodokanal’ public utility  Gennady Izyumov. This is reported by the press service of the Ministry for Temporary Occupied Territories.

As it is noted on the website of the Ministry, water supply problems in the south-western part of the Donetsk region are still not solved. Due to the constant firing of illegal armed formations, the South-Donbass water pipeline, the Donetsk filtering station, high-voltage power lines, feeding pumps and filter stations are often damaged. There are other problems of the safety of technical personnel, as well as the impossibility of carrying out repair works on damaged sections of the main water pipelines due to pollution of territories by mines and other explosive objects.

During the meeting, Mikhail Kogut  told about Mariupol's problematic water supply issues and possible ways to solve them. In addition, representatives of the Donetsk Water Institute presented a project of water supply to the city. In the submitted project, the sources can be Kalchik and Kalmius rivers flowing along the city's territory and water from  Starokrymskiy and Pavlopol reservoirs. The project envisages the construction of 2 water intakes (Kalchik and Kalmius) and 5 new modern filter stations in the city.

According to the results of the meeting, an agreement was reached on the joint development of the proposed project by specialists of ‘Water Donbass’ Public  utility, Mariupol City Council, Donetsk Regional State Administration and the Donetsk Water Institute with a view to developing a common position on the feasibility of implementing such a project to provide Mariupol with the necessary quantity of high-quality water. Now, with all interested parties, the possibility of implementing the project is being in process.
