A Regional Development Council chaired by the President of Ukraine Petr Poroshenko has been held in Kiev. The decentralization reform became the main topic of the panel discussion. The City Mayor Vadim Boichenko took part in the event.

The first leaders of the state, the chairmen of the regional administrations and the mayors of big cities of Ukraine were among the participants of the panel discussion.

In the welcoming remarks, Petr Poroshenko admitted that Ukraine has chosen the way of the European integration and it is clear on the course being followed. According to him, all the reforms that are realized in the country are directed to a better quality of life of the citizens. The head of the state emphasized that the key task that public and central authorities have is to explain the reasons and the results of any changes that happen in the country in details.

Talking about the advantages of the decentralization Vadim Boichenko admitted that this reform has given an opportunity to develop effectively to Ukrainian cities and Mariupol is a bright example.

‘We are developing two key directions. They are municipal services and public utilities. But it could be impossible without decentralization. The budget of city development has grown by 6 times and it is UAH 1 bln 200 mln. This is a certain result of the reform that gives new opportunities for development. But it is not less important to use these possibilities in a right way. The Strategy is needed for this. That is why Mariupol developed and accepted this important document in 2016. Today we are on the following step – we start the development of a new long-term strategy that should be written by the youth’,
the City Mayor said.
