In honor of the celebration of the 240th anniversary of Mariupol, Maria’s City cluster has been opened. Today it has been presented to Mariupol residents in the form of an excursion. A huge amount of work has been done in a record time for four months.
Almost UAH 300 mln were invested in the project. UAH 256 mln is from the city budget, the Metinvest Group allocated more than UAH 27 mln, the Bumbaras Foundation - UAH 15 mln, regional funds allocated more than UAH 390 000. UAH 1, 5 mln grant funds of ‘Tower’ LTD were used.
The Mayor Vadim Boichenko, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov, the Chairman of the Donetsk Regional State Administration Alexander Kuts, the People's Deputies of Ukraine, the Director General of Metinvest Holding Yuriy Ryzhenkov, the Mayor of Akmenes district Vitaliyus Mitrofanovas, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Greece Georgios Pukamisas, ex-mayors of Mariupol, Heads of city-forming enterprises, Deputies of the City Council and honorary guests checked the updated center of the city.
The route of the excursion began with the renovated Greek Square. Then the guests visited the Alley of Glory and Artists as well as the restored water tower. They looked at the construction of the Cathedral of the Intercession of the Mother of God, what the facades of buildings look like in front of the drama theater. They estimated how the Theater Square changed for better after the reconstruction. During the tour, the guide told about the history of the creation of architectural sights of the city and personalities who contributed to the development of Mariupol.
Maria’s city cultural and historical cluster is one of the most ambitious projects in modern history of the city. As part of the project, the reconstruction of the Theater Square, the Greek Square, the central part of Mira Avenue, restoration of three houses opposite the drama theater and the water tower was carried out.
It should be noted that within the project implementation, the central part of Mira Avenue has also been reconstructed. Major overhaul of the pavement and paving part to Levanevskogo Street was carried out. 2,5 km of the road was repaired. 200 thousand tons of asphalt and 34 thousand square meters of paving slabs were laid. In addition, they updated 8.2 thousand meters of running meters of the border and 5.1 thousand meters of running stone. The city budget allocated nearly UAH 170 mln for these works.
The center of Mariupol has changed. Now residents and guests of the city spend their leisure time in European recreation areas. Enjoy the walks and learn more about the outstanding personalities of Mariupol. ‘Maria’s City’ is a gift to Mariupol and its residents by the 240th anniversary.
