A workshop on Ukraine's economic revival was held in Warsaw. The event was attended by the Mayor of Mariupol, Vadym Boichenko. The main topics discussed included the city's post-war economic revival, job creation, identifying areas where people can work, and preserving a community that is ready to return to the territories liberated from the enemy.

In less than two years, the Mariupol City Council has set up 25 I’Mariupol comprehensive support centres to help people who have lost everything. Almost 10 thousand tonnes of humanitarian aid were provided. More than 120 thousand consultations in various areas. But most importantly, we have saved the community. Community that wants to return to the de-occupied Ukrainian Mariupol and revive it. Therefore, we should start preparing for the reconstruction of the city.

«We held 15 meetings with Mariupol residents to discuss the city's revival. Their request is as follows: housing, safety and jobs with decent pay. That is why we are developing an economic vision for Mariupol. It will provide answers to the question of where and what kind of jobs Mariupol residents will be able to find. We plan to dedicate 2024 to preparing for the revival of our city. Together with our partners and the community, we have to focus our attention on developing the Mariupol Reborn plan. Our faith is the foundation from which the great and difficult path of Mariupol's revival begins. I thank the Union of Polish Metropolises and each city individually for the support and hope you give to every Mariupol citizen», - Mayor of Mariupol Vadym Boichenko.

To develop an expert-level economic vision with the involvement of experience and international support. To create the first unique case of post-war economic recovery of a destroyed city. In the long term, to return economically active population and young people to the city. These are the tasks currently being set by the Mariupol City Council and the team of the recovery project Mariupol Reborn, together with partners.

«We see the revived city's economy as green and diversified. This will return Mariupol to the glory of an economic giant. This means jobs and a decent standard of living for local residents, first and foremost», - Director of the NGO «Mariupol.Reborn» Oleksandr Vyshniakov.

At the event, participants discussed with experts the prerequisites and objectives of forming the city's economic model. During the workshop, three working groups were formed in the following areas: industry and manufacturing; transport connection, logistics and port development; and knowledge hub - a sector responsible for the development of science and innovation. Each group consisted of about 10 experts. They discussed ways to develop all three areas, the factors that affect them, and possible projects. Based on the results of the workshop, the summary of the findings was formulated in the form of recommendations that will be used in the development of the economic model of Mariupol.

The workshop was organised by the project partners - the consulting company DS CONSULTING Sp. z o.o. with the support of the Gdańsk Development Agency (InvestGda).
