In Mariupol, the maternity ward of Mariupol territorial medical union of the child’s and woman’s health is undergoing reconstruction. It is carried out at the expense of the non-repayable funds of the European Investment Bank (EIB). After the renovation, the entire cycle of obstetric and neonatal care will be provided here. Vadym Boichenko inspected the progress of work.

“The EIB has allocated us a non-returnable investment of € 30 million in social facilities for a reason. This is due to the trust in our city. We have formed a clear Development Strategy, demonstrated effective budget management and are among the leaders in openness and transparency”, the Mayor emphasized.

The maternity hospital building is over 100 years old. It has not known major repairs since the beginning of the 1950s. According to the head of the capital construction department, Galina Sheychenko, 70% of the building was in disrepair. Therefore, the department will receive a full overhaul. First of all, door and window openings are reinforced. After that, they will strengthen the foundation, insulate the facade and roof, replace the windows and carry out internal work. Funding is about UAH 53 million. The object is planned to be commissioned by the end of 2021.

Deputy Mayor Ksenia Sukhova said that this is the last building that will be overhauled during the creation of a hospital campus on the basis of Mariupol territorial medical union of the union’s and woman’s health: “There will be modern operating rooms, family wards with increased comfort and intensive care for mothers and a neonatal complex. The building will also house the Department of the Medical University, which will allow students to gain practical skills”.

The adjacent territory will be landscaped. The "highlight" of the maternity hospital will be a digital stand with numbers of babies born.

“Our main goal is to protect the life and health of mothers and babies. Here all conditions will be created for this. It will be the most comfortable maternity hospital of the European level”, Vadym Boichenko summed up.
