In Mariupol Gymnasium №2 a branch of the all-Ukrainian program STEM will be opened. It aims to promote technical specialties among the girls. Total project branches will appear in 49 educational institutions of nineteen regions of Ukraine.

‘In July, the team of our gymnasium took part in the hackathon ‘Hack4Good: how to interest girls in STEM’. They developed their own project and won. Now, on the basis of our school, a branch of the program will appear,’ Lyubov Mikhailova, the director of the gymnasium said.

The main activities of the branches will be aimed at introducing and raising awareness about STEM as an approach to training in Ukraine. As part of the initiative, participants will be able to organize a variety of educational activities aimed at eliminating gender stereotypes in choosing occupations and helping female students implement their own STEM projects.

There will also be science days, excursions to successful STEM-enterprises, vocational guidance trainings and games. The activities are focused primarily on students of 5-7 grades.

In November 2019, according to the results of reporting on the events held, the organizers will select the most active branch. The winner, determined by the organizers and partners of the program, will receive the right to organize the Final Conference in December of this year.

It is worth noting, the opening of the branches was initiated by CSR Ukraine, the expert organization Center for the Development of CSR with the support of UNFPA Ukraine, the United Nations Population Fund in Ukraine and the Institute for the Modernization of the Content of Education.
