A new municipal route No. 24 will run now from bus terminal ‘AS-2’ to Microdistrict ‘Vostochny’. New trolleybuses of the ‘Belkommunmash’ brand will be used to service it. These are cars with autonomous running up to 20 km. Mayor Vadym Boichenko inspected the operation of the new route. Besides, the Mayor got acquainted with the progress of the reconstruction of depot No. 4.
‘This route was launched at the request of residents. It will connect two districts – Central and Left Bank district. Its length is over 20 km. It is important that with a new batch of trolleybuses we are increasing the share of municipal electric transport. It is less expensive and environmentally friendly,’ Vadym Boichenko said.
11 trolleybuses with autonomous running, which are on the route 24 –a joint project of the municipality with the EBRD and IFC. All vehicle are low-floor, equipped with video surveillance cameras, GPS-navigation, heating system, passenger flow sensors. Anti-vandals seats are installed.
‘When creating a new transport system, two key tasks were set – to provide quality service to residents and comfortable workplaces for employees. Today we are at the final stage. The next step is to reconstruct the depot and launch an electronic ticket,’ the Mayor stressed.
According to the head of Mariupol Tram and Trolley-bus division Vitaliy Doniev, the best depot in Ukraine will be created on 7 hectrares. The project is being implemented with the support of international partners –EBRD and IFC. The cost is EUR 6.4 mln.
At the moment, dismantling work is underway. After the completion of the reconstruction, all conditions will appear in order to professionally carry out maintenance and repair of municipal transport.
In addition, a pilot project for the introduction of an electronic ticket will be launched in April. According to Vadym Boichenko, the automated fare collection system is another component of the new transport model. It will allow you to get away from paper money circulation, that means it will help to avoid possible elements of corruption.
