New Year trees in all districts of the city will be lit on the night of December 18-19. Festive events will be held online, and fairs will be subject to strict quarantine restrictions. This format will allow not to endanger the health of Mariupol residents. Mayor Vadym Boichenko announced this today.
“The main thing for us is the life and health of Mariupol residents. It is important today to be responsible and conscientious. The coronavirus is making its own adjustments and we are adopting a new format. The city does not give up on New Year and Christmas holidays, but we cannot ignore the rules and restrictions. I am sure that despite this, residents will feel the atmosphere of a holiday, a miracle and will receive extremely positive emotions, ” the Mayor said.
There will be three New Year locations in the city: Theater Square, Veselka Park and Freedom Square. On Mira Avenue from the Underpass to Teatralnaya Square, there is a huge entrance arch to the festive town, behind which there are fair houses. A new main tree of Mariupol has been installed on the square. It is unique for Ukraine. It has a modern illumination system and almost 100 thousand LEDs and is absolutely safe.
The Residence of Desires is also located here - a full-fledged festive location in which every child can write a letter to St. Nicholas. The residence will be open every day from 14:00 to 20:00. There is a huge book, an armchair, cabinets with letters, a mailbox and many other interesting things. The ceiling is densely decorated with many Christmas tree decorations. Behind the building of the Drama Theater there is a symbol of the coming year - a metal bull, and in the center of the Theater Square there are festive photo zones: a huge glowing bear, New Year's candies, giant Christmas balls.
There is a bright festive tree in Veselka, and 12 bright bulls are located throughout the park, which symbolize each month of the coming year. All of them are hand-painted by the artist Maria Tumanova. New fair houses have been installed around the tree, made in a modern design and decorated with gifts that are under the tree.
Freedom Square will become the center of family recreation with festive attractions. In the very center of the square, there is a 6-meter slide, a Venetian carousel and a New Year's train. All these activities will work the whole New Year holidays.
“All events will be held in accordance with the recommendations of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. In particular, Christmas fairs are allowed today, but there will be no tables near the houses so as not to create a mass character. Besides, all locations will be provided with sanitizers, ” Deputy Mayor Olexander Kochurin said.
