Mariupol residents honored the memory of the killed during the shelling of the Shidnyi microdistrict on January 24, 2015. A funeral service was held at the memorial sign "To those who died in the undeclared war". The event was attended by mayor Vadym Boichenko and deputy chairman of the Regional State Administration Vadym Filashkin.
The mayor noted that the shelling of the "Shidnyi" divided the life of the city into "before" and "after". That day, according to him, showed the strength of the unity of the people of Mariupol.
“This is a story about our large Mariupol family, which united during a tragic event. It is about doctors who provided first aid, police officers providing security, employees of the State Emergency Service, who were among the first on the spot, metallurgists and ordinary people of Mariupol who helped the victims. Such tragic events should not be repeated anymore,” Vadym Boichenko emphasized.
Electric sirens sounded in memory of the dead. At the end of the rally, everybody who was present laid flowers at the memorial sign.
It is worth noting, that on January 24, 2015, as a result of artillery shelling of the Shidnyi microdistrict, 31 people were killed and more than 100 were injured.
