Complex operations have begun in the Department of Vascular Surgery of the Cardiovascular Center. Thus, surgeons performed an operation to restore the passage of the vessels of the carotid arteries for the first time last week.
“This is a complex operation, which is not done in every regional center. Previously, such interventions in Mariupol were simply impossible. Due to the work of the department of vascular surgery and the purchase of modern equipment, now we can carry out them,” surgeon Anton Matasov said.
The department of vascular surgery has two modern operating rooms, intensive care wards, a procedure room and comfortable wards for patients. New equipment has been installed. The X-ray installation of the C-arm is among them. According to the head of the department of vascular surgery Vasyl Ivantsiv, it allows examining vessels to detect pathology and conducting minimally invasive operations instead of "open" ones.
“Minimally invasive interventions allow patients to quickly return to a fulfilling life. The key point is that the stay of patients has been reduced from two to three weeks to three to five days,” Vasyl Ivantsiv shares his successes. Serhiy Orleansky, director of Mariupol city emergency hospital, adds that due to the Cardiocenter, it was possible to almost halve the death rate from heart disease.
“The first direction that we developed was the fight against acute myocardial infarction. A unique angiograph was purchased for this. Now we have fully moved to the second direction - the fight against vascular diseases. This will reduce mortality from strokes,” the doctor said.
