During the 58th session of the City Council, Deputy Mayor Ksenia Sukhova has spoken about the key areas of work of medical staff and the municipality in the event of the second wave of coronavirus. To this end, the city is working in the following areas: increasing testing per day, establishing the work of the pharmacy department, providing oxygen to medical institutions and personal protective equipment, as well as effective work of outpatient monitoring.

Ksenia Sukhova noted that Mariupol began training in countering coronavirus back in February. The municipality and doctors have developed a clear work algorithm. This allowed the city to successfully cope with the first wave.

“In Mariupol, clear directions for combating Covid-19 have been identified. We worked carefully with a circle of contact persons. With regional laboratory centers. We have established interaction between the primary and secondary health care units. They did not allow the filling of beds in hospital bases. We made a decision to reward medical staff from the city budget”, the deputy mayor emphasized.

She added that the city has identified directions for solving the main task - to provide professional medical care and to cure the patient as soon as possible.

The first direction is to increase the number of tests per day. For this, the efforts of the regional laboratory and private centers are being consolidated. Now up to 500 tests are being processed per day, two EIA laboratories are working. In addition, a laboratory has already been delivered to the city, which was purchased at the expense of the city budget.

“Within two days it will be adjusted and soon it can start working. Its productivity will allow carrying out up to 600 samples. We form teams to work in the laboratory”, Ksenia Sukhova said.

The second is to organize the work of the pharmacist department in such a way as to make a diagnosis within two days and decide on further actions.

The third is to carry out additional oxygen points in hospital bases and departments. Metinvest Group will build another 220 oxygen points. This will allow you to use the bed fund more efficiently.

The fourth task is to keep doctors safe. Fully provide personal protective equipment. Purchase the necessary equipment. For example, pulse oximeters. They will facilitate the work of the medical staff. And fifth - to launch outpatient monitoring, which will monitor the health of patients who are being treated at home. For this, 40 teams have been formed.

Ksenia Sukhova also urged not to speculate on this topic in a political context and to unite everyone in the fight against the pandemic: “To achieve the goals in the fight against the pandemic, coordinated work is needed. Let's support our doctors. It's not easy for them now”.
