Today, young and elderly Mariupol citizens have gathered together near the monument to the victims of fascism to pay tribute to the memory of those who were killed in World War II, those who defended peace in Mariupol and Ukraine at the cost of their own lives.
The rally was attended by the representatives of the city government, law enforcement officers, military personnel, schoolchildren and caring residents of the city.
‘Today we remember those who defended Mariupol and its independence. Every year, these heroes leave us, but we continue to honor their resilience and courage. They are an example for us, showing that everything can be overcome together,’ First Deputy Mayor Mikhail Kogut said.
After a minute of silence, to the sounds of the orchestra to the foot of the monument, everybody carried lighted lamps in symbolic red poppies and flowers.
