A planned meeting of the Green Council has been held on the basis of Donetsk State University of Management. Discussions concerned the environmental tax and slag recycling issues. The participants prepared a number of legislative initiatives to improve the environmental situation.

The head of the Department for Ecology, Energy Management and Labor Protection Vahagn Mnatsakanyan, heads of regional environmental inspections, People’s Deputy of Ukraine Sergey Magera, the representatives of industrial enterprises, members of the Green Council and the public took part in an open dialogue.

Vahagn Mnatsakanyan emphasized that in a number of European countries the environmental tax remains at the level of 80 percent or more: ‘It is necessary to review the structure of the tax distribution at the state level so that more funds are left for the implementation of environmental projects in the city,’ Vahagn Mnatsakanyan emphasized.

People’s Deputy Sergei Magera supported everybody who was present in this matter. The People's Deputy said that he was considered in the committee on environmental policy and environmental management.

‘There was a proposal to raise the amount of tax in the cities to 40%. He was actively supported by all members of the committee, which may indicate the implementation of the reformation in the near future. This change will bring an additional UAH 35 million per year to Mariupol,’ Sergey Magera said.

According to the members of the Green Council, if this amendment is adopted, then Mariupol will receive a financial resource for the implementation of the most important environmental projects for the city. For example, the completion of the construction of storm sewers in Klenovaya and Maryinskaya gullies.
