During the meeting of the executive committee, the members of the commission have decided to approve a conclusion regarding the appropriateness of raising a loan in order to implement an investment project to modernize the Mariupol water supply system. This is one more step on the way to quality water supply for the residents of the city.

The draft decision allows to attract a loan to the municipal enterprise ‘Mariupol Production Management of Water and Sewage Facilities’ under the guarantee of the Mariupol City Council and the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine.

The project to improve water supply will be implemented with the financial support of the French Government in the amount of about EUR 64 million. These are credit funds with a grace period of 10 years and a low interest rate.

‘Now the most important thing is to develop a working plan. Our main goal is to provide Mariupol residents with high-quality drinking water. For this we are looking for a technical solution. Our partners from France will develop a master plan for water management in Mariupol which will become a clear plan for solving the water problem,’
Vadim Boichenko stressed.

During the project implementation it is planned to build a water purification plant. The best options for its location will be developed. They will also select the most effective cleaning methods, taking into account the geographical features of the region.

The scheme will help to turn out the algorithm to solve not only the drinking water issue. On the basis of the research and conclusions, the schemes for cleaning storm and industrial effluents as well as household sewage will be developed and improved.

Besides, local authorities are negotiating with the European Investment Bank in order to attract additional financial resources for the replacement of water networks. The estimated funding will be about EUR 30 million.
