For the third year, a skating rink began its work for the residents and the guests of the city in the winter in Svoboda Square. It was solemnly opened by the Mayor Vadim Boichenko and the president of the Donbass hockey club Boris Kolesnikov. Figure skaters performed there and the Donbass Club athletes showed a hockey match.

‘This has become a tradition. For the third year, we have opened the ice rink together. We look to the future with a good claim to winter sports. Today, our dream has begun to come true - Boris Kolesnikov and I have laid the foundation of the ice arena in Mariupol. This suggests that dreams come true. They come true on the eve of Christmas and New Year. Today we direct all our dreams and ideas to our children. We want the sport to develop and the children to be active, cheerful and love our city’,
Vadim Boichenko noted.

In his turn, Boris Kolesnikov said that the ice arena, the construction of which has begun in Levyi  Bereg  district, will open its doors in the fall. Hockey players will train there and the section of figure skating will work.

‘For all schoolchildren, cards will be distributed, according to which they will be able to come once a week and skate on the ice rink for an hour,’  the president of the Donbass hockey club said.

During the opening of the skating rink, the residents of the city could enjoy the performance of professional figure skaters and the match of  Donbass hockey team. Also, everyone could take pictures with Santa Claus, Snow Maiden, a pig - the symbol of the coming year  and other fairy-tale characters.
