Mariupol celebrated its 240th anniversary at weekend. Almost 100 000 people visited the holiday.
To celebrate, they conducted a large-scale reconstruction and created ‘Maria’s City’ cultural and historical cluster. Avenues, squares, parks and historic buildings were reconstructed. A pedestrian fountain with European stars is opened that is a mini copy of the London Sky Gadren, its total cost is about UAH 25 mln. This is a gift to the city from Metinvest Group. Mariupol invested UAH 300 mln into the reconstruction.
100 000 citizens came to see the parade of stories of the city, the Festival of borshch, droning races, quests, flash mobs, game programs and 3D shows. The culmination of the celebration of the 240th anniversary was a concert with the participation of Ukrainian stars. Artyom Pivovarov, a Star Band cover band, Leprikonsy and Jamala rocked on the stage.
Mariupol Mayor Vadim Boichenko stressed that the city is setting a new trend.
