Members of the executive committee have approved an investment project to modernize the city's water supply and sewerage system today. Within its framework, it is planned to reconstruct key sewage pumping stations: 1A, 5A, 9A and biological treatment plant. In addition, the project will restore a 2.9 km long pressure collector.
‘These are key pumping stations that pump sewage from Left Bank to the biological treatment plant, which treats 100% of all effluents. It was built in 1973 and needs to be modernized,’ Volodymyr Antonenko, head of ‘Mariupolvodokanal’ said.
The project is financed by the European Investment Bank. Its cost is EUR 27.4 million. The loan is issued for a period of 30 years. The grace period will last 8 years.
‘Today, the city's water supply and sewerage system requires significant modernization. This project is one of the key steps on this path. It will not only upgrade the sewer system, but also lead to significant savings for the budget. Thus, it is expected to reduce electricity consumption to 35%,’ First Deputy Mayor Mikhail Kohut said.
It is planned to complete the whole complex of works in 2024.
