Formal meeting on the Ukrainian National Flag Day was held in Mariupol

The meeting in honor of the celebration of the Ukrainian National Flag Day was held on the Voyinyv-Vyzvolyteliv Square. Vadym Boichenko, the Mayor, raised the blue-yellow flag together with little Mariupol citizens solemnly, as it is a symbol of honor, security, stability and tolerance of our country.

The orchestra played and the eternal light burned from the very morning in the square. Hundreds of Mariupol citizens came with national flags, wearing national clothes. The Main State Symbol was hoisted by Vadym Boichenko, the Mayor, together with pupils of the secondary school No. 25. Then the Mayor congratulated everyone and noted that the State Flag had become a symbol of solidarity and unity for the people of Ukraine.

“Today is an important day for the history of our Ukraine, the National Flag Day, which expands over our country and over our city. The blue-yellow flag embodies the endless Ukrainian wheat fields and the ever-blue sky. This is a symbol that became for the Mariupol people a pledge of strength, character, stability and security. We are proud that we live in Ukraine and we are proud of our symbols”, - Vadym Boichenko said.

Mykola Poboinyi, the Chief of the Central Police Department, with Oleg Grach, the Deputy Commander of the Mariupol operational-tactical group, joined the Mayor’s words.

By the end of the meeting, the flowers were laid to the Voin-Vyzvolytel memorial sing.

It should be noted that the National Flag Day was established by the Decree of the President of Ukraine in 2004 and celebrated annually on August 23. There is a complex of solemn events with the participation of the leaders of science and culture, representatives of international, public, religious organizations, political parties on this day in the regional and district centers and other settlements of Ukraine. Citizens of Ukraine and the Diaspora, enterprises, state institutions and organizations hand up the State Flag of Ukraine over their buildings.
