Today a forum dedicated to the cooperation in the field of prevention and counteraction to gender-based and domestic violence has been held in Mariupol. The purpose of the event is to strengthen coordination and efficient provision of services. The hall was attended by the representatives of the UN, government services, the police and Mariupol City Council. Through the online communication, Natalya Fedorovich, Deputy Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine, answered questions of concern.
She noted that the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine is developing new educational programs. They aim to prevent violence. ‘I am very glad that the forum is taking place in Mariupol, as the city takes an active position in solving the problems of gender-related and domestic violence,’ Natalia Fedorovich said.
In addition, there are state programs for the psychological rehabilitation of combatants in Ukraine. Qualified psychologists also work in Mariupol, they communicate with both the combatants and their families.
‘In Mariupol there is a mobile group of social and psychological assistance, a correctional program for the aggressors has been introduced. Besides, a crisis center with the possibility of permanent residence was opened. The mobile brigade travels to addresses together with social workers according to a report from the police or appeals of the victims themselves. The situation is being clarified on the spot, psychological assistance is being provided. If necessary, specialists can help the victim get to a safe place. For example, in Shelter, women can be with children from a day to several months. They are provided with psychological and legal assistance,’ Stepan Mahsma, Secretary of the City Council said.
