In the assembly hall of the Mariupol Technical Lyceum there has been a discussion of the project of reconstruction of Freedom Square on Mira Ave. It was attended by the residents of the city, deputies of the city council, representatives of the public and students of technical lyceum.
Meetings are held on all new projects for dialogue with the public. Implementation of the reconstruction is designed for two years. Now the project is at the stage of signing contracts with contractors. In a week, it is planned to install a fence around the stage area for work. A separate discussion is planned on the greening of the zone around Freedom Square.
The reconstruction of Freedom Square provides for the arrangement of a complex of multifunctional public buildings, landscaping of the territory with lawn decoration and automatic irrigation. Alleys and grounds will be paved with tiles. Pedestrian sidewalks, paths, bicycle paths and bicycle parking will be updated. The number of playgrounds in the green zone will increase. They are divided by age groups. Such sites will be available for people with limited mobility. During the renovation, the exterior lighting will be updated, including the lighting of the decorative arches. This was told by the project architect Anatoly Berdyugin.
According to the project, a pedestrian arched fountain will be located on the square. It will consist of 102 streams of water, with an arch height of 3.5 meters and a length of about 40 meters. It will install a modern system of filtration and disinfection of water, as well as a system for measuring wind power. Another remarkable place is the symbolic composition “The Bell of the World”.There will be written statements of famous public figures. Besides, a multifunctional stage will appear on the square, and a tribune for holidaymakers will be located nearby. Behind it will be an ice arena for two thousand spectator seats, which will be a whole sports complex. The cost of reconstruction of the area will be about 43 million UAH, and the fountain - 23 million UAH.
‘Freedom Square will be interesting for its scene, there is no such thing in Europe. It is multifunctional: it will have a public area, a bookstore, a cafe and a public toilet,’ Deputy Mayor Sergei Zakharov said.
The residents proposed to equip the area under the skatepark or space with specially equipped jumps. It was received a proposal to expand the parking area for cars.
