In order to form the propensity for continuous treatment of people with tuberculosis, by approaching tuberculosis care to their place of residence, the social support system was extended in Mariupol.
In the framework of the Tuberculosis Counteraction Program for 2010-2018, during the provision of DOT-services (outpatient treatment) in medical institutions of the city, free groceries or hygiene kits are provided to Mariupol patients suffering from tuberculosis
In connection with the increase in prices for products that are recommended for the list of social recruitment, in accordance with Articles 26, 59 of the Law of Ukraine ‘On Local Self-Government in Ukraine’, it was decided to extend the issuance of social sets.
The question for consideration was submitted by Svetlana Makarova, the Director of the Health Department Deputies unanimously supported this decision.
Thus, 98% of outpatient TB patients will be covered by social support.
The solution is aimed at stabilizing the epidemiological situation of the population with tuberculosis, improving the quality of treatment for tuberculosis.
Today, the average monthly number of tuberculosis patients who need social assistance (1 time per month), subject to systematic, controlled admission of anti-tuberculosis drugs in the DOT-rooms of the primary health care centers and the city TB dispensary is 100 people.
In just 6 months of 2018, 183 cases of diseases were registered, the indicator per 100 thousand of the population was 38.85. This incidence rate is higher than the same period in 2017 by 7.24% and higher than the average regional by 40.4%, with the proportion of unemployed persons being 60% (109 people), mostly among people in the risk group. The highest incidence rate of respiratory tuberculosis is found among HIV-positive people (70.7%), most of them are unemployed.
The proportion of detachments from treatment at the outpatient stage in the first half of 2018 was 0.5% (1 person), which is almost two times less than in 2017, which was 1.1% (3 people). This was made possible due to the provided social support for tuberculosis patients at the outpatient treatment stage which is an important component in the formation of adherence to treatment.
