Mariupol presents an assessment of local public organizations’ potential

Today there has been a presentation of the results of the assessment of the potential of local civil society organizations in Mariupol. The study was carried out according to various indicators by the Charitable Foundation ‘Creative Center ’ in the framework of the ‘Cities of integrity’ project of the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative in Ukraine (EUACI) during October-December 2018.

The study focused on civil society organizations that are located in five cities of Ukraine and are covered by the concept of ‘Cities of integrity’. They included Mariupol, Chernivtsi, Zhytomyr, Chervonograd and Nikopol.

The goal is to study the state of development of civil society organizations in selected cities with a focus on their connections with each other and cooperation with city authorities, regional networks and structures. Special attention was paid to the study of organizations that work with young people and women.

According to Natalia Baldych, a representative of the foundation, the largest number of public organizations is registered in Mariupol - 650. 14 of them took part in the survey by filling out questionnaires for an online survey. She also noted that the study showed: since 2014, the interaction of city authorities with public organizations has become more fruitful.

The representatives of the public and city authorities discussed the results of the study. Grigoriy Berezun, Director of the Department for Security and Prevention of Corruption, emphasized that the event was held within the framework of the signed Memorandum of Cooperation with the European Union Anti-Corruption Initiative in Ukraine (EUACI). He noted that the main task of this cooperation is to increase the level of transparency and accountability of the city council to the citizens.

In addition, the European Union’s Anti-Corruption Initiative in Ukraine (EUACI), in cooperation with the ‘Tamarisk’ and Cultural Initiatives Support Center, announced a Small Grants Competition in Mariupol.
