PU "Mariupolteploset" plans to use waste heat from "Azovstal Iron and Steel Works”. The investment project is being implemented under the Sweden-Ukraine District Heating Support (SUDH) program from NEFCO. About 30 thousand residents will receive high-quality and cheap heat supply services. Reduced CO2 emissions are provided.

“The city gets the financial opportunity to develop a project. The key issue is to allow you to transform secondary heat into heating residential buildings. As a result, Mariupol families will receive a price reduction, and the city will receive a decrease in gas consumption,”
Mayor Vadym Boichenko explained.

According to the Mayor, the project is a pilot version. In case it is successfully implemented, it can expand. In particular, they plan to heat schools and kindergartens in this way.

According to the terms, “Teploset” will receive a soft loan of up to EUR 5 million and a grant part of up to EUR 1.5 million. The funds will be allocated by NEFCO to modernize the utility business. The project provides for the use of the waste steam of the iron and steel works, the modernization of boiler houses "Gazovaya", "279 kv", "Vostok" and their integration with each other.

“The implementation of this initiative is impossible without the support of Azovstal Iron and Steel Works of Metinvest Group. It is important that they agreed to support the project and become its active participants. It is this kind of cooperation between the municipality, the utility company and the private business that made it possible to attract investment funds,” Deputy Mayor Sergei Orlov said.
