The remains of a soldier who defended Mariupol during the Second World War were found during the excavations of the burials of German soldiers in Theatre Public Garden. Today, he was reburied with honors at Zaozerne cemetery in one of the beds of honor of the Soviet soldiers of the Southern Front, prisoners of war and civilians.
“The remnants of the soldier were identified by star on the garrison cap and by the buttons on the service shirt. He died in October - November 1941 during the defense of Mariupol. His name is not known. Therefore, it was decided to rebury the defender in the bed of honor together with his swore brothers”, - Vadym Isakov, the Head of the Housing and Utilities Development Department, said.
The reburial was attended by Oleksandr Tsarok, the Head of the Kalmius district administration, with representatives of veteran organizations. They responded to honor the memory of the soldier who laid down his life for peace.
In the homage to the defender, the Ukrainian soldiers made fireworks with weapons, and people laid down flowers to the grave. They remembered the years of wartime and at what price defenders were given victory, and then all of them promised never to forget feats of the defenders.
