The second meeting with the public was held to discuss the progress of the project ‘A historical walk through Mariupol’ in ‘Vezha’ creative space. A month ago, at the end of October, the project was presented to the general public and now a kind of interim report on the implementation of the project has taken place.
The representatives of the project team told about all the measures that have already been implemented during the project as well as those that will be implemented over the next month. ‘Since the start of the project, we have already managed to develop models of mini-sculptures, land signs, to determine the key historical buildings along the route and to develop information signs on them. The most difficult tasks for us were to work on clearing the building of the radio center and organizing test excursions because in November the weather conditions are not always favorable for such events, the organizers said. - However, we were joined by a large number of people, who were a pleasant surprise. The participants of ‘100 hours of volunteering’ project as well as simply active residents of the city, have joined the work on clearing the radio center. And more than 40 people took part in three test excursions. As part of the survey, they expressed their opinion on the project which is mostly positive’.
The project is a pedestrian route that passes through the historic buildings of the city or their historic location. Tourist route combines 17 city attractions. Its length is about 5 km, starting from the railway station and ending in a water tower. The features of the route will be a series of six thematic mini-sculptures and a number of ground signs, to lead a pedestrian along the route. The mini-sculptures will be placed on six key objects of the route and depict the personality of the outstanding Mariupol Viktor Nielsen.
The main goal of the project is to draw attention to the history of Mariupol, the architectural plastics of its old part, specific historical buildings and architectural monuments through the creation of a unique tourist magnet that will become an accessible place of attraction for the population of Mariupol and guests of the city and, as a result, the spread of modern Ukrainian culture and rethinking the historical identification of the city.
