A city improvement contest ‘Our city is our home’ takes place in our city.134 applications were submitted to participate in it. Today the expert commission has traveled around to determine the best in four categories. The commission consisted of representatives of district administrations, deputies, employees of the Department of housing and communal infrastructure and social activists.

According to the head of the amenity department of the development of housing and communal infrastructure Vadim Isakov, this year the prize fund has been increased to motivate participants and competition nominations have been changed.

‘A new competitive direction has been added –‘The Best Public Initiative’. This nomination will help to show and tell about people who, despite of life circumstances, continue to change the world around for the better and help others. The competition itself is designed to motivate Mariupol residents to positive changes,’ Vadim Isakov said.

This year, one of the contenders for victory in this nomination was an internally displaced person from Shirokino Natalya Logozinskaya. She organizes free workshops for children on the preparation of Belgian waffles. He takes an active part in charitable gatherings and always goes to a meeting in organizing the space for events.

Every year the competition is gaining momentum, many participants submit applications again and get an additional financial opportunity for improvement.

A commission of eight people visited sites in the nominations: ‘The best yard of an apartment building – HOA’, ‘The best yard of an apartment building, except HOA’, ‘The best manifestations of public initiative’ and ‘The best street of the private sector’.

One of the contenders to win in the profile nominations was the yard at 10/6 Bakhchivandzi Str. and 8 Khmelnitsky. During this time, residents on their own, with the support of the city, radically transformed the local area. They replaced the heating main and water supply network, rolled up asphalt, arranged a parking lot and a ‘Cozy Yard’.

During the inspection of the courtyard, Vadim Isakov emphasized: ‘In Ukraine, there is a massive tendency to create HOAs. Mariupol today is a leader in this direction. People feel support from the city authorities’.

The tile was laid in the yard, a sports ground, a swing, a gazebo, benches and trash bins were installed. The installation of sports simulators is expected. In case of victory, they plan to purchase construction tools.

Besides, the expert commission evaluated the progress of work in the house in 14 Bahchivandzi. It participates in the nomination ‘The best energy-efficient apartment building’.

Since 2016, the house regularly holds events aimed at improving energy efficiency. A smart frame, energy-saving day-night lamps and plastic double-glazed windows in the entrances are installed. Now the house is being insulated along the foundation. This method will help to keep warm in the winter.

‘Every year we see the result of activities to warm the house. It has become warmer in the flats and we began to pay less,’ Elena Slepova, chairman of HOA in 14 Bakhchivandzhi said.

The commission reviews were held in all areas of the city. According to the results of the competitive evaluation, winners will receive gratitude and gift certificates in the amount of UAH 5 000 and 10 000.
